Services / 01 Technical leadership
Get the right software built, and know why you are building it.
I help businesses plan and deliver software with a clearer understanding of the requirements, costs, technical decisions and risks involved.
This can mean supporting an internal team, taking a closer look at a struggling project, working with an external software house or providing senior technical leadership when the business does not need a full time CTO.
Situations I am asked to help with.
- 01A software project keeps growing beyond its original scope.
- 02The business is not sure whether the development team is building the right thing.
- 03Different vendors or internal teams are not communicating effectively.
- 04Important technical decisions are being made without sufficient business context.
- 05The company depends on software that is difficult to maintain or extend.
- 06There is no experienced technical person accountable for the overall direction.
- 07A business wants to replace spreadsheets and disconnected processes with a reliable system.
Clarify the requirements.
Work with business stakeholders to understand the actual workflow, identify priorities and separate essential requirements from unnecessary complexity.
Evaluate the technical approach.
Review architecture, integrations, existing systems and proposed solutions before major commitments are made.
Improve delivery.
Establish clear priorities, review progress, identify blockers and help business stakeholders and developers work from the same understanding.
Coordinate technical partners.
Help select, brief and evaluate software development companies and keep ownership of important decisions with the client.
Review what already exists.
Assess code, infrastructure, dependencies, operational problems and the effort required to improve an existing system.
Get involved in implementation.
When appropriate, contribute directly to technical work rather than limiting the engagement to recommendations.
A documented technical assessment, prioritized roadmap, architecture recommendations, project scope, vendor evaluation, delivery review or ongoing technical leadership arrangement.
What you receive depends on the scope and the situation. We agree it before the work starts.
A straightforward way to get started.
We discuss the business, the problem, the current setup and what a useful outcome would look like.
If I can help, we agree on the questions to answer, the work required, access needed, deliverables and timeline.
Depending on the engagement, I review systems, speak with stakeholders, work with the development team, evaluate options or contribute directly to implementation.
You receive clear findings, recommendations or completed work. If further work makes sense, we can discuss it. There is no obligation to turn every assessment into a long term engagement.

Tell me about the situation. If I can help, we will define a clear scope together. If I cannot, I will say so.
